Lebron James is more than just an NBA basketball player, he is a children's advocate dedicated to providing a promising future to the youth who had a challenging background as he once did.
The NBA star who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers as a small forward has partnered with the University of Akron to provide a guaranteed four-year scholarship to the school for students in James' "I Promise" program who qualify. The scholarship will cover tuition and the university's general service fee. James plans to provide this for 1,100 kids, which would cost his foundation a total of $41.8 million at the school's current rates.
Being that he is just a kid fron Akron, that is the least he feels he could do for the community since he is a product of the environment. Also James states "These students have big dreams, and I'm happy to do everything I can to help them get there. They're going to have to earn it, but I'm excited to see what these kids can accomplish knowing that college is in their futures."
The school and the LeBron James Family Foundation are still in the final stages for the scholarships. The students will have to graduate high school within Akron's public school system and achieve standard testing requirements as well as fulfill a community service obligation. Once that is done, Lebron is more than happy to send these children to school without a worry financially for 4 years!
Good luck to all children enrolled and a major salute to King James for giving back to the community! After all, $41.8 million isn't chump change!
