Wendesday night in Queens, NY, myself and B.B.B's team was invited to the infamous Gwinin Fest located at Club Play on Queens Blvd. As we entered the building, I must say the layout was professional. Everyone was generous except one security dude at the front door. As I set my equipment up and was given the names of the artist that was scheduled to perform, I began doing slight research. It seem to be a mixture of musical talent as far as location. Some artist were from NYC while majority were from out of town.
Each person I interviewed was asked the basic question of how they got the opportunity to be apart of the Gwinin fest and how they felt about being apart of this series. The answer was DJ Self was looking to give independent and up and coming artist the chance to expose their talent and they were ready to tear down the stage. I must say, the music needs to step up 100%. I was highly disappointed with an exception to a few. I felt like I was at a Down South or even in the Mid-West festival. I recall saying" hip hop is lost" and my surrounding peers expressed the same.
Next to me was Mr. Unapologetic Dax Douglas with Daximus Primetime LLC. His team felt the need to share their opinion as well which made me interview an artist "Da Real Xtina Marie". A female artist whose also media shared her views and shared that the art of hip hop is lost! Just as I felt.
At a certain point in the concert, I had to exit the building. I'd heard enough at that point.
This is one of the reasons why I put "Cold World Web Series" together. I want to pay homage to the originality of Hip Hop! I want to showcase the classic freeseyles and raw singing abilities from artist out of NYC. I want that old feeling back.
Artist if you would like to submit your music to be apart of the series, please email BrownieBabiiBlogs@gmail.com. If it is of standards, you will be featured on an episode.
Please send music labeled correctly in MP3 form along with track title and artist information completely. Incomplete submission will be disregarded.
I think New York artist needs to get out the trap house sound and make the legends proud of NY proud. Or if you choose to do that sound, make it your own! Don't conform
