In 2016, over 30 years after its inception, Hip-Hop has defied the confinements of musical genre, and transcended into a cultural phenomenon. Though rooted in rapping/emceeing, DJing, dancing, and graffiti art, Hip-Hop is a lifestyle. From the very start it has been a form of expression that serves as the voice of the voiceless. The art form illustrates the reality of what many live through-situations that birth emotions and emotions that birth situations. Hip-Hop expresses the good, the bad, the in-between, the possible, and the impossible. Hip-Hop's influence is immese, because it is definitively dynamic and multifaceted. Hip-Hop has grown from being the sound track that DJ Kool Herc fathered in the Bronx, to the culturally, politically, and socially conciousness of Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five; it has grown from the female empowerment of Queen Latifah and Salt-N-Pepa, to the street's disciple's prayers of Nas, Big L, Too Short, and Ice T, and even to the alternative aesthetic of the Leaders of The New School, Outkast, and The Fugees. Today there exists many forms of these pioneers, as well as the emergence of white rappers, LGBTQ rappers, Christian rappers, international rappers, and kid rappers. Hip-Hop thrives off of being both inspired and inspirational. Hip-Hop breaks the rules. It innovates and motivates. Hip-Hop is far from formal. It is unapologetically rebellious, honest, provocative, and its underdog foundation is the driving force to its embracing and inclusive nature. Hip-Hop unites generations, cultures, classes, genders, just people all around, whether its through dance, venacular, attire, brands/products, and habits; The heights of Hip-Hop are limitless because the passion that fuels it is endless.
