'The Conversation', a digital series that is the brainchild of current Columbia University Ph.D student, Brennan Dubose, is focused on educating through guest-driven dialogue. Dubose has facilitated an array of hot topics, such as Black males in urban education, homophobia in youth culture, and undocumented youth in the United States, just to name a few. The most recent addition to the series centers around Hip-Hop Education. Hip-Hop culture is one of the driving forces of today's urban youth. The way students communicate, dress, and identify themselves, is all rooted in Hip-Hop. Trying to censor that crucial aspect of student's lives is the source of much of the opposition that is faced in classrooms. In this segment of 'The Conversation', future Dr. Dubose enlists two Ed.D candidates and two Ph.D candidates, one of which was the educator that was lucky enough to have rapper, Kendrick Lamar, visit his New Jersey high school. The five education gurus provoke thought amongst each other in the attempt to resolve whether or not Hip-Hop can help reform urban schools. Peep below to check out the full show and spread some love to 'The Conversation' creator here.
